My Compass
May 26, 2006
I am sitting here and I am filled with so many ideas on how to begin my first post, yet can not make a decision on which one to use. So let's start here. The Bible talks a lot about roads, paths and walking in the "right" direction. I hesitate to start off with a topic so controversial, but isn't that the American way? To agree to disagree? To be tolerant of everyone elses belief as long as it does not affect you directly? I have heard the arguements and have even debated it myself more times than I can count. Where does it get me? Where does it get you? Is it worth it? Is there another way? Many questions, little answers. Where am I really going with this?
Well, it is the road I travel and the compass I use. A traditional compass has 8 distinct directions on it, we know them as North, South, East, West, North East, North West, South East and South West. Excuse me if I insulted your intelligence, it was not intentional.
So what is the "right" direction? Many would say, whatever way is "right" for you. I personally believe that it is much more clearer than we think. It is just we are asking the wrong question. It is not what is the "right" direction, but what compass are you using? If you are using a traditional compass then that is part of your problem. But that is just it, we like it that way. We like the options. We live in a world that provides us with so many options that it is almost impossible to settle on any, so that is exactly what we do…or should I say don't do…we don't settle.
I know that this post will not be viewed by many seeing how it is my first one. So, my next comment may be illrelevent…I know that I will probably not change anyone's mind about the "right" direction and the compass used to define it, that is why I titled it "my compass," in an attempt not to offend anyone. However, it is a lost cause because with that statement, I offend myself for compromising what I truly believe.
I believe that I am rambling and I will try to be more focused when I write future posts. Now to my compass. Like I mentioned earlier, if you are using a traditional compass, then chances are you are confused on what is the "right" direction for you to take. So here is the solution. Narrow down your choices. Not with what someone smarter then you suggests or what your parents have told you to believe. Not with some fictional or "non-fictional" book that you have read that seems to make sense and tug at your heart strings in order to "hook" you. Not with a certain group of people who accept you for who you are. But with real intentional research. It is my strong conviction that if everyone were to stop trying to fill the void in their life with immediate gratification, pause and really look for truth, real fulfillment through real research then their compass would only have one direction on it. It may just look like my compass which displays, True North.
There is only one way and that is all I have for now, but I promise I am not done. Write to you later. Thank you for reading my rambling. Have a great day.

hey gary,
just dropping you a note to let you know about a get together with all the past Believers. i am desperately trying to get ahold of people without much luck. So two things: 1. we are getting together on July 21st at 2pm at the Borys residence. the logistics are: every family should bring a dish to pass and $5 per family for meat and paper products to be provided by the Borys’. 2. If you can generate any other contact info for others from the group that would be very helpful. Thanks alot Gary, I hope all is well.
